The Friends (FOPBGS) are a registered Non-Government Organisation, established in 1995. Our aim is to increase public appreciation and education of Plants and the Environment. The Societies promotes horticultural activities, scientific research and conservation of plants and the environment, at the Penang Botanic Gardens.

By becoming a member/Friend, you are entitled to reduced course, workshop and talk fees; regular newsletters; a 10% discount in our Botanika Shop as well as use of our library and Botanika Outreach Education Centre (opposite Moon Gate).

Through our various activities we hope to increase public awareness and understanding of the value and importance of plants, biodiversity conservation and sustainable living.

We have a number of different audiences: schoolchildren and teachers, adults requiring very specific courses or casual visitors wishing to know more about plants and the Penang Botanic Gardens.

The Society conducts:-

1. Nature fieldtrips and nature art courses for children;

2. Public Education: tours, talks and courses for youth and adults;

3. A Community Recycling Project and Education programmes.

The Friends hope to generate greater appreciation of the Botanic Gardens as a unique and natural asset to be preserved and nurtured by all Malaysians and nature enthusiasts.
